Online Healthcare Degrees >>

Healthcare is expected to generate more jobs than any other industry in the U.S. between 2008 and 2018. Learn more about some of the most widely pursued online healthcare degrees.

6 popular online heathcare degrees

Healthcare is such a large and growing field that there are many different online healthcare degrees you can pursue. The field of healthcare is expected to generate 3.2 million jobs from 2008 through 2018, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports--more than any other industry in the U.S.

Students can gain entry into many different medical careers by earning a certificate or diploma, an associate or bachelor's degree, or even a master's degree in a health-related field. Your career options greatly depend on the length of time you commit to your studies. Many medical careers require a minimal amount of postsecondary education, while others require four or more years of study.

Nursing is one of the most widely pursued online healthcare degrees due in part to the good salaries offered and high demand for nurses. Registered nurses earned median wages of $64,690 in 2010, the BLS reports. Registered nurses must have a minimum of an associate degree, but many students prefer to earn bachelor's or even master's degrees because the extra time spent studying allows for greater career choices.

Five other popular online healthcare degrees include:

  1. Medical Assisting
  2. Surgical Technologist
  3. Pharmacy Technician
  4. Medical Laboratory Technician
  5. Health Information Management

Online colleges offer many other types of online healthcare degrees though. One of the key factors to investigate before enrolling in any online college is to determine if the healthcare degree program has been accredited by a well-recognized accreditation agency. Such organizations include the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. However, there are many different respected accrediting agencies.
